Hey guys,
first off i want to apoligize with utmost sincerity that i was not at our very last meeting last week. I was heartbroken!! But i guess life goes on 8[.
If only there were a more significant phrase than "thank-you-you-guys-are-so-cool-and-awesome-and-nice-and-i-love-you-guys!" haha But yes indeed, all of you guys made my years in ACS so great. I'm grateful that you've allowed me to be your president for two years! It' s amazing how much I've learned. I've learned the meaning of the American Cancer Socity, how to be organized, how to run a meeting, how to do things even when youre nervous/scared/hesitant. I have such a passion for our club. As nerdy as it sounds.. yesterday being the first w'ednesday that we didn't have a meeting.. i felt a little lost! haha.
You probably won't realize how common cancer is in our society until a closed one gets it. I've had family members, friends, and teachers diagnosed with some type of cancer. And in plain words: I'm sick of it!
I don't care that i'm young, only a student, or that I'm not anyone famous or known. All that we've done in our club this year- walks, relays, daffodil days, cranes, lung art contest, yoplait lid drive, cuts for cancer, fundraisings- we've contributed to the American Cancer Society. "contributing" doesn't always refer to $$$. To me... it means having the knowledge, supporting, and educating others. When i started ACS i did not know what the heck a mammogram was, and nor did my mom. But now that i know, my mom is saving her life by taking the prcautions to avoid getting breast cancer.. When we learn about these tragic disease we need to not only learn it ourselves..we have to make others learn to! Knowledge and Education are such powerful weapons in curing cure. We might now have the chemical equation to the "cure for cancer" but what we every week and weekend is helping to motivate others to take the precautions and to learn the facts.
So basically in conclusion.... ACS is a bit more than the coolest thing on the planet 8]
Again thank you to all members for making the American Cancer Society Youth Club so awesome, fun, great, fantastic, etc.etc.! You have all motivated me each week to be a better president. I will definatly miss each and every one of you. I hope that you all will conti nue to be members next year and the year after that! And if you're wondering what happens after college...dont worry!!!!! there is CAC (Colleges Against Cancer). I have high expectations for all of you guys. Think of all we did this year.. now we need to do TWICE that! You all have a super fantastic team of officer. I have absolutly no worries that they will work their hardest to lead you guys in a wonderful year. Good luck, and I will miss you 8]
